700 plus people or more

will be at the big bat flight tonight. There are over 460,000 Mexican Free Tail Bats living in Bat Cave right now. It will be my first talk and there is just so much to talk about, remember and say. I will have a lapel microphone and stand in front of the cavern opening and in front of a full ampatheater (sp). The bats fly when they want too- meaning you can talk anywhere from 20 mins to 1 hour and 20 mins. This can be nerve racking because who really wants to hear someone talk at you for that long.

I have an outline with bullets siting all the details and even interesting stories. Such as, Bats used as Secret World War II weapons. The government did test runs on using Mexican Free Tail bats to invade Japan with small incendiary bombs attached to their chest. The bombs had a time delay that once the bats roosted for the night in local houses and barns, would start small fires all over the place, causing major destruction but little loss in life. This was approved by Roosevelt. Seems better than the atomic bombs used.

Interesting. I once heard that bats had been contemplated upon to being used as a means for spreading some biological weapon. Though I am not sure of the validity of that bit of information, it would sure make one helluva science fiction novel, wouldn't it? :)

I will look for information on the biological weapons. We turn the mike off before the bats come out so as not to disturb them.

The bats fly out nightly from a huge cavern in NM.

Not sure if you gave your talk yet, but I hope it went well. I didn’t know that about the bats and WW2. How interesting!
