My Son Wants to Be a Lion For Halloween

Here are a few cool things I found while looking for a good homemade costume idea. Any ideas are welcome.

THis is just too cool. I would love to know how to make this, she is sold out!

You too can make this crazy mask!

I love homemade costumes. We made all of ours growing up. I mean I understand just going and getting one it is just so easy and when you are swamped... We went to target and really thought about it but in the end, I am going to try and do something like this from Parenting.Com I have a brown jacket so now it is just how to get the mane on the jacket without ruining the jacket. Any ideas?

There are some crazy pumpkins here.

By the Airport has some fun ideas and is doing the 31 days of October for Halloween.

I like the mop head lion idea! Hmmm, tail with coat hanger to make it stick out. A giant cardboard bone or just a stuffed animal that he can pretend to eat.

Is that a moose 2 posts down? Amazing you have animals right outside your window. All I have are pesky mynahs/ ravens who have the bad habit of dropping all sorts of nonsense on the window ledges, dead mice included. Obviously I neglected to tell them dead animals are not appreciated....

Cool, you could colour the mop orange/brown to make it more realistic, and add plenty of whiskers to your son. Roaarrrrr!!!!

Thanks for the link!

You could probably attach the mane to the jacket with some strategically placed sewing, like big X's (like a little more than tailor's tacks) at the front, back and sides with upholstery thread. Then you could just cut it loose after Halloween.

That top one is a technique that has been elongated. Do you have the Stitch n Bitch Knitters Handbook knitting book? If so, look at the Loopy Velez Cowl on page 167. You can adapt that to make it!

Hi... thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. That movie I recommended (Wonder Boys) wasn't a television movie... its actually a movie that was a theatrical release in 2000... was never promoted so not many people know about it. Bob Dylan wrote some great music for it. You can probably find it in a video store. I admire the fact that you don't watch TV... I often think my life would be richer without it... but I have a deeply addicted husband and its on all of the time.

I like your blog and will check it from time to time. Love the little lion!

That pumpkin is something else..
Would Velcro help with the jacket????????
My friend started making costumes for kids, she is now the proud owner of a busy costume hire business (I wonder how many say they made them).

I used to put a lot of effort into making my kids halloween costumes, too. I knew we were approaching the end of n era when my older son slapped a beanie with a propeller on top onto his head and announced that he wsa going as George Bush!

If you don't mind the mop head sticking permanently, you could E-6000 it! If anyone that has taken any of my classes reads this, they will probably fall out of their chair. They always make fun of me about my E-6000 *hee hee*
