This eat local thing seems to be taking off!

I am reading Kingsolver's new book Animal Vegetable Miracle Year Food. And it seems so are a few friends as well.
  • Kingsolver's New Book

  • Somehow from all of this I am getting the notion that I can now make my own cheese. My friend Amy says its great. Others claimed you will never go back. So I am ordering the kit today and will make some mozzarella !

So if by some strange chance you are also feeling like becoming a real "housewife" as Kingsolver's book would say by making your own cheese then click here to learn more.....
  • Ricki's Cheese Making
  • okay you do not need to be a housewife but an interested cook. Really until I moved out to the middle of nowhere I am not sure I would undertake making such a thing. But the lack of anything like this here in Carlsbad has forced me to learn to make a lot of things.

I like the idea of making your own food from scratch. Initially I was happy as a lark when more and more frozen lunches and dinners started appearing in supermarkets. Then I thought, hey! why should i let some stranger decide how much salt/sugar/condiments go into my body and ruin it?

    Wow! Cheese!
I am so so curious about eating locally and in season. i must read more about it. My hesitation lies in things like Bananas, I would miss Bananas. I look forward to reading more :)

That very kit is sitting on top of my refrigerator to tackle after school starts!

That Kingsolver book is an excellent read and really makes one understand the importance of eating locally or at least regionally. She is not dictatorial or stridant, and having her daughter and husband as part of the writing team gives the book an even more welcoming tone.

Chelle--I still get bannanas but try to be good about the stuff I know I can get locally.

Gulanz- I too that is why I am looking into this.

as much as i like cheese, i don't think making it for me is something i want to do, i am not much of a housewife anymore. I used to can a lot and make jams and all, but now i find myself wanting to relax more and enjoy life without much extra stuff to do. Let us know how the cheese turns out

I've heard about people making their own cheese lately... it's quite the thing, I guess. Sounds heavenly, since I love cheese of any kind! The book sounds really great ... must pick it up. Thanks for the tip.
